The Missing Branch

Image result for branchIt was their 15th foster family and the brothers were dreading the move, with their tattered backpacks in tow.  The backpacks contained their scant memoirs from the past three years.  “It’ll be okay, Trad”, James tried to reassure his brother, with his own doubts, as tears formed in his eyes.

“I don’t wanna go, James!  Do we have to meet yet another family?  Another family that will just leave us?”

“Our only other option is running away.”

“Then let’s do it, let’s run away!”

“Ok!  Let’s leave the first night that we are there.  We will sneak away as soon as it turns dark.”

The brothers climbed into the car and began the journey to their new home, with their thoughts and plans overpowering everything else that was going on around them.   They did not recognize the path they were taking or the familiar views.

The forlorn look on their faces immediately transformed to that of jubilation, when the car stopped.  “Aunt Reese, Uncle Kenny!”, both boys simultaneously yelled.  “What are we doing here?”

“We have been trying to find you boys since the accident.  We have finally succeeded at finding the missing branch of our family tree.”
